How To Install LED Light Bulbs for Your Car

To Install or Change your Headlight for the car is pretty simple. Just Plug and Play!

NOTE: You should know which type of bulb fits your car. It is important to use the correct type of bulb and wattage when replacing a headlight that is burned out. You should take your own responsibility to find out your bulb type. IDENTIFY YOUR BULB TYPE!
Only apply to plug-and-play style.
Here is a source that can help you find the bulb meant for your vehicle. https://www.bulbs.com/Automotive_Lighting/results.aspx

Things You Need:

  • Vehicle
  • Headlight Bulbs
  • Owner's Manual
  • Alcohol Wipes (optional)
  • Cross Screwdriver (optional)
  • Straight Screwdriver (optional)

Step 1. Knowing which bulb you are installing/changing.

Check the Owner's Manual, find out what size bulb you need.

Step 2. Open and prop your vehicle's hood.

Step 3. Power [off].

You should make sure the power is turned off so that you don't get shocked. Safety first!

Step 4. Unlock, remove, and replace your bulb.

To locate the light bulb you want to change, simply just compare their positions, and you will find out.
Hold your bulb's housing, and twist the housing counterclockwise, and you can feel/know it is unlocked.
PS: These two pictures provided are not for dual-beam headlights(high beam and low beam in on headlight).

Let your bulb(s) cool down before touching it.
When removing the bulb, make sure you do not force fit the bulb, or else housing can be damaged.

Step 7. Power [on]. Test the bulb.

Don't panic if the bulb does not turn on, try switching sides first, then test them directly on a battery to make sure bulbs are not dead on arrival (if you bought them online.)
If bulbs do not work after getting fed a direct power source, then they are likely dead or defective, unfortunately.

Step 8. Lock the bulb into car's headlight housing.

After your bulbs are tested, fully functional on car sockets, you can now lock the bulbs into car headlight housing. Simply just twist the housing clockwise, and you can feel/know it is locked.

Step 9. Close the hood.

Close the hood and make sure lights are still working by checking them once again, such as no loose connection.

  1. Modifying vehicles are one of my favorite lists. Changing the LED head light is one of coolest things when I try to modify a car. Driving with a different color headlight make me feel special. After reading your blog, I will plan to changes my vehicle LED light bulbs to another color. However, reading your installation instructions, I got a little confused on step 4. I do not think this step is very simple, after reading I have some questions: How can I take out the bulbs lights? Where can locate the bulbs? etc. I think you may add in more information in this step. To sum up, I love your topic, but at the installation steps I would like to recommend more information.

  2. I really enjoyed this blog because I like fixing up cars as well and I would enjoy building my own car up. I think knowing how to install the light bulbs in vehicles is also very handy and saves you a lot of money in the future when one of the car lights burn out. The language used in this blog is also very straight forward and accessible to anyone. What I also like about this blog is that someone can easily learn how to put lights in on an emergency.

  3. This blog features some attractive graphics and takes its time to make sure that people don't do things unsafe or waste money with the wrong bulbs.

Considering how many different types of bulbs and cars there are, it must have been a challenge to create a generalized guide. Once you get into the details, you do a good job of providing clear instructions, which is good.

On the other hand, there were several times reading this blog where I was distracted by some of the choices you made. For example, in the first section, there are at least 3 font settings and it hurts my eyes. Your first sentence is a "Note" and it reads, "You should know which type of bulb fits your CAT." So, off the bat, I was not convinced that this was a professional level blog.

But like I said, you demonstrate some good writing skills when you get into the technical details. Consider reviewing the principles of design in our textbook.
