How to read and play tabs for guitars Draft

Things you need:
Guitar or electric guitar
Device that has internet connection
Favorite song or solo of a song, riff, chords, etc.

how to read tabs
Tabs have six horizontal lines and numbers on the line to show you which fret you are on.
The six lines represent the notes/ letters on the strings which are (E,A,D,B,G,E) this is in order from the thickest string to the skinniest string on the guitar. So for example if you would want to learn how to play a solo look for the tab online and read the tab.

Example: the intro for sweet child of mine its really easy to play. The tab would show a sheet with the stuff mentioned above but now you have to look for which fret and note you are going to play. The tab will tell you to start on the d string but on the 12 fret, second  you will hit the b string on the 15th fret, Third step is from the g string you hit 14 and 12 in that order , fourth step is e (skinniest) string 15th fret then g string 14th fret , then is back to e (skinniest string) 14th fret and back to g string 14th fret. 5th step is the d string again but this time you start at the 14th fret.  Repeat steps 2-4. 6th step is the g string on the 14th fret and repeat steps 2-4. for every different starting position you would do that twice for example if you start on d string on fret 12 the steps 2-4 you will do that twice for each time you change on the starting position.

Fyi
To actually sound like slash or similar to him you will need to play this on the neck pickup of your guitar and have some type of distortion effect pedal with the amp.

How to play tabs
After you read the tab or parts of the tab grab your guitar and practice it a couple times over and over again until you feel confident that you know how to look at the tab and just start playing that note on whatever fret you are playing enjoy.

  1. Although I don't know how to play a guitar like a pro, I know a few things about it. I grew up watching my dad, so he taught me the basics but as of today it’s been years since I touched a guitar! As I was reading your blog post, I completely had a flashback to the time I began playing, not knowing anything but having that desire.

Although your blog was a good refresher for me I do believe if you are trying to attract more of an audience you should include some picture of how tabs look and maybe even include a video to have a sort of illustration to go with your how-to. Despite these minor changes, I believe it is straightforward and simple which is a good thing. I really like how mention if you wanna sound like slash because who wouldn't hahaha.

  2. While the writing in this blog is not bad, much more attention needs to be given to the circumstances of the reader. For the most part, your descriptions are sound, however, they become unclear because it is difficult for the human brain to imagine and remember so many details. Why not show us a picture of a guitar neck so we can see the frets? Why not show us a picture of tabs, so that we're not just imagining numbers floating in the air.

There are also some uses of non-standard grammar. For example, beginning a sentence with a number is considered bad. Slash's name should obviously be capitalized, even though it isn't the name his mother gave him.

Perhaps you saw this as an opportunity to challenge your descriptive skills. If that's so, just let me know so I can give you more time to complete this blog in a way that will work for a larger percentage of people.
